School Uniform


At Belconnen High School it is the policy of the School and the Community that all students wear the prescribed school uniform.

The uniform promotes easy recognition and student safety.  Wearing the school uniform demonstrates a sense of pride for the School and our local community.

The Approved Uniform:

Shirt - White short sleeve with red piping with BHS logo embroidered on pocket

Blouse - White short sleeve with red piping with BHS logo embroidered on pocket

Skirt - Black and red check


Shorts

  • Black tailored with BHS logo embroidered on left leg
  • Charcoal grey tailored with BHS logo embroidered on left leg

Pants

  • Black tailored with BHS logo embroidered on left leg
  • Charcoal grey tailored pants with BHS logo embroidered on left leg

Jumper options
  1. Black/red hoodie with BHS logo on the chest
  2. Red Woollen with BHS logo embroidery on chest
  3. Black Micro-fibre with fine red piping, BHS logo embroidery on chest

Jacket - Black waterproof layered jacket with BHS logo embroidered on chest


Shoes - Black leather, fully-enclosed. See note below
Socks - Black or White

Socks - Black or White


Physical Education

All students are required to change into the appropriate PE uniform for lessons and activities. PE lessons cannot be done in the formal day uniform.

Poloshirts - Black/red with BHS logo on chest
Shorts - Plain black sports shorts
Shoes - Sports shoes


Optional

White plain T-shirt or skivvy may be worn under shirts and blouses
School bag - A black sturdy chiropractic approved backpack is recommended
Hat - A plain black or black/red bucket hat or black/red cap


Jewellery

Must be kept to a minimum and must present no risk to the owner or any other student.


Shoes

Safe footwear is an O.H. & S. requirement for many school activities. The following is an extract from a Department of Education and Training policy concerning footwear and safety in practical work.
"Thongs, open type sandals or shoes, canvas type shoes and/or gym boots, shall not be worn in practical classes where there is a possibility of injury through spillage of hot liquids, metals, or the dropping of heavy or sharp instruments, tools etc. While it is not possible to specify any one standard to meet all situations, fully enclosed shoes with a sturdy sole and firm leather uppers with a leather tongue are considered necessary".


Excursions and Events

Students must wear uniform at all times when on an excursion or representing the school (unless stipulated by organising teacher).


Students not in Uniform

On each occasion a student is not in the school uniform the school requires a written explanation from the parent/carer.

Every occasion a student is out of uniform (without explanation)

  1. Pastoral Care teacher logs this occurrence on the pink sheet in their Pastoral Care roll
  2. Student excluded using the oval during lunch time on that day.  (Students are allowed no further than the fence outside the Art and PE classrooms)
  3. Student not permitted to attend an excursion on the day
  4. Attendance officer records out of uniform when students sign in late

Second occasion a student is out of uniform in one term (without explanation)

  1. Parents/Carers notified by Pastoral Care Teacher
  2. PC teacher sends 'Out of Uniform' letter home to Parents/Carers
  3. Student excluded using the oval during lunch time on that day.  (Students are allowed no further than the fence outside the Art and PE classrooms)
  4. Student not permitted to attend an excursion on the day

Third occasion a student is out of uniform in one term (without explanation)

  1. Parents/Carers notified by Pastoral Care Teacher
  2. Pastoral Care teacher informs Year Coordinator
  3. Student excluded using the oval during lunch time on that day.  (Students are allowed no further than the fence outside the Art and PE classrooms)
  4. Student not permitted to attend an excursion on the day
  5. Student placed on the Stoplist.  This excludes the student from participation at positive behaviour afternoons, extracurricular excursions and from representing the school in sporting or other teams.

A Student is repeatedly out of uniform (without explanation)

Parents/Carers notified and required to attend an interview with the student to address the issue

Note: All students have a fresh start at the beginning of each term.
